IK4-TEKNIKER is a non-profit research organization, founded in 1981 with more than 200 researchers. Its mission is to help the industrial sector to increase its innovative capacity by means of generating and applying technology and knowledge in order to be more competitive. IK4-TEKNIKER is the reference centre for Manufacturing Technologies, Mechatronics and Microtechnologies in the region of Basque Country.
IK4-TEKNIKER has a strong background in relevant technologies as Mechatronics, Microtechnologies and ICT technologies for Smart System development and used in different application sectors as manufacturing, energy, transport, aerospace and health. The center not only provides technological R&D services, but promotes also the generation of new business initiatives and innovation management activities with regional, national and international industrial actors, both public and private. Further IK4-TEKNIKER is involved in the development of Basque Regional Business Clusters where most of these clusters have “Smart Components” relevance either as component manufacturers or system integrators but for Co-FACTOR two of them will be especially relevant: Machine tool and electronics & ICT.
With involvment in FP7 and Horizon2020 programmes, IK4-TEKNIKER has participated in 65 projects leading 12 of them, and 52 local companies has been integrated in these initiatives.
Role and contribution to Co-FACTOR:
TEKNIKER was the coordinator of core FoF projects T-REX, Power-OM and INTEFIX and as such an important representative of those projects' vision on smart components. Within Co-FACTOR, TEKNIKER was further involved in communication (WP2), for instance via social media channel set-up and project branding. Further TEKNIKER was leader of task 3.2 which implied assessing commonalities and best-practices sharing.
